ClearSight Rolls Out Latency Monitoring Tool
Cronos said to provide real-time alerts and analysis of latency problems for trading systems.

A new latency monitoring product ClearSight Networks introduced today measures latency (in other words, data transmission delays) at the packet layer, watching and reporting on the movement of data across networks in real time. "This is as close to real-time latency monitoring as you can get," says Steve Wong, vice president of marketing, ClearSight Networks.

The software monitors and correlates messages from collecting agents, calculating the latency for corresponding packets containing financial data from one endpoint to another. The product is passive and therefore is said to introduce no load on a production system such as a trading platform. The software recognizes latency and message loss problems and provides graphs that show latency values; if latency is longer than it should be at any point, that instance is highlighted in red. The system can also send out alerts of latency breaches.

Cronos is integrated with a high capacity storage subsystem allowing for extended recording of all network information within an organization's financial network; the company says this facilitates network analysis, data collection and forensics. The software was developed for a global provider of business news and information services looking to deliver time-sensitive information to its subscribers quickly and accurately.

With this product, ClearSight Networks joins the ranks of vendors trying to cure Wall Street's latency issues with a monitoring solution. These include CodeStreet, Correlix, Endace, HP, OpTier, Reuters, SeaNet, Trading Metrics and Trading Systems Associates.
